William DuPre Thigpen, affectionately known to many as “DuPre,” was born on July 7, 1966, and departed this life peacefully on October 8, 2025, at his residence in Erie, Pennsylvania.
William was the beloved son of the late William Douglas Thigpen and Rosemary Gray, and the cherished grandson of Albert Thigpen, Sr. and Eular Mae Thigpen, who lovingly adopted and raised him.
A proud graduate of Academy High School, William “DuPre” went on to serve his country as a proud United States Marine. Following his service, he became a licensed professional barber, known not only for his skill but for his generosity — often offering free haircuts to those in need. Through this simple act of kindness, William touched countless lives and reminded others that compassion is a ministry in itself.
William was a true Dallas Cowboys fan, the life of every room, and someone whose laughter could lift even the heaviest hearts. His humor, warmth, and ability to make others smile will forever be remembered.
A man of faith, William believed deeply in God and was called into ministry in 2002. Although life presented him with challenges along the way, his faith remained at the center of who he was. He never stopped believing in God’s grace, love, and forgiveness — and those who knew him best saw the light of that faith shining through his heart.
Dupree leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Rosemary Gray; his devoted brothers, Nicholas Mehler (wife Shelly Spencer) and Jonathan Boyd; his children:
Anthony Newby
Dupre Babcock
Devin Verdoni
Jordan Thigpen
Jared Thigpen
Isaiah Barron
Isabelle Huurman
He is also remembered by a number of grandchildren, along with a host of family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss his radiant smile, generous spirit, and the joy he brought to every life he touched.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing that Dupree has found eternal rest in the presence of the Lord he loved and believed in. His legacy of laughter, kindness, and faith will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
