Obituary
Richard "Rich" J. Mielnik, 91, of Erie, passed away on February 22, 2023 at Hamot Hospital. He was born in Erie, Pa on August 14, 1931, son of the late George and Josephine (Bal) Mielnik. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings Genevieve Gorski, Thaddeus Mielnik, Regina Loncki, Albert Mielnik and Theresa "Dolly" Berdis.
Rich served as a medic in the United States Army, retired from Hammermill Paper after 45 years of service, was a member of the Third Street Polish Falcons, the American Legion, the Siebenbuerger Club, Life long member of St. Hedwig Church, where he served as an usher and it's Holy Name Society, spending time with his family, gardening, going to the casino, he was always looking for something to do, he had a witty humor that would put a smile on your face, master of the one liner. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who has left his earthly family to join his family in heaven.
He has left to cherish his memory his loving wife of 65 years Patricia Joan (Pawlak) Mielnik, his children, Rick Mielnik and his wife Paula of Erie, Albert Mielnik of Tennessee and Kathleen Miller and her husband Craig of Ohio, his sister Dorothy Mielnik of Erie, eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Nicholas, Katy, Justin, Ricky, Zachary, Aaron and Nathan, six great grandchildren, Hailey, Hannah, Skylar, Enna, Nora and Q (Richard IV), his sisters - in -law Irene Mielnik and Mildred Krainski and her husband Tony and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to St. Stanislaus Church, 516 East 13th Street, Erie, Pa 16503 on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 11:30 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 1:00 pm. Burial with full Military Honors will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to either, the Gertrude Barber Center 136 East Avenue, Erie, Pa 16507 or St. Stanislaus Church.
