Natalya "Nookie" Overton Obituary

Natalya “Nookie” Cherie’ Overton, 32, was called home to be with the Lord on March 17, 2026. Natalya entered this world on September 9, 1993, as the beloved daughter of Angela C. Vincent and Nathaniel L. Overton.

Natalya was a proud, lifelong member of Victory Christian Center Cathedral. She was a 2012 graduate of Collegiate Academy High School. She continued her academic pursuits at Edinboro University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education in 2017. Natalya coupled her formal academic credentials with receiving a license as an esthetician from Laurel Technical Institute, Meadville, PA.   During her college years, Natalya worked at Tim Horton’s. After completing her degree, she held positions at Sarah Reed Children’s Center and the Erie Home for Children & Adults. She became a teacher in the Erie Public Schools, where she served as a physical education teacher at Edison Elementary School, and most recently, she was a science teacher at Eagle’s Nest School of Academic Distinction.

Natalya was dedicated to her work and was never one to be unemployed. Family was always at the center of Natalya’s life, and she was always the life of the party, the one to get everything started. She was enthusiastic about sharing her talents of dancing, arts & crafts, planning and decorating, and athletics with others. At Victory Christian Center Cathedral, she directed the DIVA’s dance ministry, inspiring many through her leadership. Additionally, Natalya coached youth in track and field at the Eagles Nest Leadership Corporation, helping young people develop their skills and confidence.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Henry James Vincent and Bettie Jean Jones Vincent, as well as by her paternal grandfather, Johnnie Keyes.

“Nookie” was cherished for her listening ear and her habit of ending conversations with “love you.”  Those words will be missed by her parents; her beloved and cherished only daughter, Ziyun Overton-Evans; siblings Endia C. Vincent; Nachelle Overton-Lunger (Issac); Dashawn Overton, Sr.; Nathaniel L. Overton, Jr. (Tara); DaNat’sha Crosby; Shakoya Overton; Kali Deboe, Nayana Overton, all of Erie, PA; Sharniece Bills (Gregory) of Maryland; and Brian Lee of West Virginia; nephews whom she helped raise,  Jeffrey Edmond and Davion Edmond; paternal grandmother, Elsie Overton; Godfather, Archbishop Dwane Brock; Godchildren, Lemario Crosby and Armani A. Davis, Jr. of Erie, PA; Godbrother, Carlos Tate, Jr., her Man-Man, Darnell Vincent;  and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, bonus mom’s and sisters, and so many other loved ones.

To honor Natalya’s life, calling hours are at Victory Christian Center Cathedral, 1129 Pennsylvania Avenue, Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 1:00 pm, with Archbishop Dwane Brock serving as the eulogist. Burial will follow at Erie Cemetery.
