Matthew Gray, Jr.

Matthew Gray, Jr, age 75, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023. He was born March 10, 1948, in Enterprise, Mississippi, to Matthew Gray, Sr, and Annie Mae Bester Gray.

Matthew attended East High School in Erie, Pa. He participated on the wrestling team. He loved football and boxing.

Matthew was preceded in death by his parents Matthew Gray, Sr, and Annie Mae Bester Gray, two brothers John Wesley and Henry Lewis both of Erie, Pa, two sisters Mary Alice Johnson and Elizabeth Jordan.

Matthew leaves to cherish his memory and legacy, to his beloved and only child Shayla Marie Gregory, his lifelong partner and mother of Shayla, Ms. Denise Gregory, his former wife Ms. Rosella Gray of Lewes, Delaware. Three brothers James Gray and (Mildred) Jacksonville, Florida, Elijah and Jeffrey Gray Erie, Pa., Three sisters Mrs. Annie (Gray) Bishop and (Earl) Erie, Mrs. Hattie May (Gray) Riley and (Tim), Jacksonville, Florida, and Mrs. Rosie (Gray) Glover and (Robert) Erie and his only living Aunt Rosie Lee Turner, Laurel Mississippi. And a host of nieces, nephews and friends that will hold his spirit and memory close to their hearts forever.

Matthew was a man of many talents. He loved spending time with friends and family. He loved listening to the Temptations. He was a mentor and watched over individuals who couldn’t protect themselves from others. Matthew enjoyed playing cards, one of his favorites was gin rummy where he made his own rules along the way, especially when he was losing. He loved his coffee and had a sweet tooth for pastries.
