A beautiful soul, Maggie “Noot” Brown, age 81, departed this life into eternal rest on April 3, 2026, in Erie, Pennsylvania, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was born on April 18, 1944, in Paulding, Mississippi, to the late Lamar and Hannah (Jones) Stephens.
Maggie was a devoted and proud homemaker who dedicated her life to nurturing and caring for her family. Her love was the cornerstone of her home, and her strength and grace left a lasting impression on all who knew her. On May 21, 1962, she united in marriage with her lifelong partner, James Henry Brown. Together, they built a strong foundation rooted in love, faith, and resilience—one that will continue to uplift generations to come.
Maggie was a long-time member of Christ Temple under the direction of Bishop William Robert Clark before transitioning to Mt Ebal under the leadership of Rev. Cleveland E. Ulmer and currently Rev. Timothy Ward. Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters Corine Jones (LC), Dora Mae Stephens Jones, Mattie Stephens, Rosie Lee Terrell (Chester), brothers William Stephens, Robert Lee Stephens (Julia), Lee Tassel Stephens (Catherine), Lee Hassel Stephens (Rosie), and eldest son, Willie L. Brown.
She is survived by her children David Brown, Lisa (Jimmy) Jones, Jimmy Lee (Joanne) Brown, Louise Brown-McLaughlin and Lee Marvin Brown. Maggie was radiant, tenacious, compassionate, and vivacious, carrying herself with a spirit full of grace. Family was the very center of her life, and she was the steady force who kept everyone connected and uplifted. As the heart and foundation of her family, she deeply loved and cherished her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends Nancy Sanders and Sally Mcgarvie and honorary daughter Rosalind Barnett. Her family was her everything, and in return, she was everything to them—a source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love. Maggie will be deeply missed by all who loved and adored her, yet her beautiful spirit will live on in the lives she touched.
Family and friends may call the Mount Ebal Missionary Baptist Church 1617 East 26th St., on Saturday, April 11th, 2026, from 10:00AM to 12:00 PM and are invited to her Celebration of Life Service at 12:00 PM with Pastor Timothy Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Davis-Garr Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc. 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503.
