Joseph L. Wesley

April 16, 1950 ~ September 11, 2023 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Obituary

Joseph Leo Wesley, Jr, age 73, passed away peacefully in his Erie home on Monday, September 11, 2023 in the company of his wife, Darlene and stepson, Ronald Smialek.

Joe was born on April 16, 1950 in Erie. He is the son of the late Joseph Wesley, Sr. and Virginia (Stanbro) Adamus.

Joe lived in the Erie area for most of his life. He was a tool and mold maker for nearly 50 years. He is described as a teddy bear by those who knew him well, though could appear intimidating by those who did not. He was a problem solver and never met a problem he couldn’t solve. He had a calm and comforting way about him and was always able to make things make sense. He was an amazing listener with a heart of gold-always willing to help someone in need.

Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was known for his softball years and played golf and loved a good game of pinball. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and passed his love of the team to his children. He loved animals and always spoiled his pets. He also just loved to take long drives… he may disappear for hours just driving.

Joe was proceeded in death by his parents and siblings: Chester (Chet), Dianna Blair and Jeffrey, as well as his in-laws, Rocco and Mary Pitto.

Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Darlene, his children: Joseph, III, Aryn Schroeder (Gainesville, FL) and Karen Doll (Gainesville, FL). He also leaves two stepsons: Ronald (Clymer, NY) and Shawn Smialek (Charlestown, WV). His grandchildren include: Madison Schroeder (FL), Kristen and Logan Smialek (WV) and Samantha Smialek (NY). Joe also has nieces and nephews in the area.

Joe has requested not to have a funeral, so instead there will be a celebration of his life at McGarrey’s Oakwood Cafe for family and close friends.
