Janet Thayer

Janet M. Thayer, 81, of Erie, Pa., passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

The proud first-generation Italian American was born in Erie to loving parents Albert and Josephine (DeMichael) Falbo on August 28, 1943, who preceded her in death. ‘Jan’ married Navy Veteran Jack Thayer on December 4, 1976, who lives to cherish her memory after 48 years of marriage.

Janet (also known as ‘Mom’ and ‘Nana’) is survived by her children, Bob and Colleen Maxson, Michelle Blanchard, Jeff and Diana Maxson, Lisa and Greg Holman, and Becky Maxson, her grandchildren, Mike, Alyssa and Tim, Nicole, Dane’ and Joe, Tiffany and Erik, Richard and Michaela, Kim and Kenneth, Amanda and Brett, Jordan and Chuck, Greg, and Brianna, and her great grandchildren, Charleigh, Camryn, Chase and Chesney (Mike), Declan and Emma (Alyssa), Maddie and Brooke (Dane’), Josie and Lina (Tiffany), Memphis and Wynter (Kim), Joey, Asher and Rhett (Amanda), and Ray and Mary (Jordan), sisters Kathy Falbo and Marylou Allessie, and several brothers- and sisters-in-law who she deeply loved as her own.

The family of Janet wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Rothman and the team at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, and Dr. Morrow III and Dr. Kuric (retired) of Your Hometown Health Partners for their support during her 22-year battle with Leukemia, Lymphoma and the ups and downs during her health journey. A long-time donor of St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Janet’s wish was for no child to ever have to fight those same medical battles.

Honoring Janet will take place on Sunday, March 16, at Dusckas Funeral Services at 536 W. 10th Street, with a viewing and visitation from noon to 3 p.m., immediately followed by an intimate funeral service.
