James Carter, known as "JC”, 78, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, in Erie, Pa.
JC was born on September 6, 1947, son of the late Mack and Margie Carter, of Erie, Pa. He was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and furthered his education by attending Clarion State College where he majored in Business Administration. JC also attended Mercyhurst College and played on the Men’s Basketball team while majoring in Sociology. He was well known in the city of Erie, loved dressing with style and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. JC was always there if you needed him. He never questioned it. To know him was to love him.
JC was a former member of Good Samaritan AME Church growing up and a recent long-time member of Victory Christian Center where he was head of security, part of the Sons of Issachar, and Designated Driver for Archbishop Dwane Brock.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyshaun Thrower and a sister, Bobbie J. Hodge.
He leaves to cherish his memory; three brothers, George Carter, Sr. (Geraldine Carter), Roy Carter (Dorothy), Anthony Carter (Annie.) One sister; Nina Stewart (Charles Stewart), all of Erie. Two Daughters, Shuri Harden, of Erie and Kobi Gore of Charlotte, NC. Four sons, Dameon Ragland of Atlanta, Ga, Aje Gore, of Erie, Pa, Diallo Meredith of Atlanta, Ga, and Lashawn Moye of Erie, Pa. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to Victory Christian Center Cathedral 1129, Pennsylvania Ave. Erie, Pennsylvania 16503 on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the time of his Homegoing Celebration beginning at 1:00 PM.
