Sadly my wife and best friend Geraldine "Geri" Maras was unable to sustain her body due to colon cancer. She passed away at her home under Hospice Care on July 28, 2024. Geri was born in Erie, Pa on December 21, 1950, daughter of the late John J. and Dorothy (Dovichow) Cambra.
She worked at Harrington Laundry with her sister Dorothy until her retirement in 2015. Geri was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She was an excellent cook. Her recipe for "beans and rice" was my favorite of all, I could eat it for days on end and never get tired of it! In her younger years, Geri loved to bowl with her friends, she had a passion for fishing and would always give her catch away to someone else. I cannot say enough about her commitment to raising our daughter Lindsay, in a way that seems to some extent to be fading away, e.g. good manners, respect for others and common sense, for which I will ever be grateful.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, John A. Cambra and Scoty Cambra, her brother-in-law, Rod Maras, her in-laws, Ray and Ninetta Maras and her beloved dog Izzy.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gary Maras, her daughter Lindsay Maras Zdziebko and husband Zach and their daughter, Kit of Los Angeles, California, her sister, Dorothy Comman, brothers, Michael Cambra and his wife Coleen and David Cambra and his wife, Mary, brother-in-law, Chris Maras and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family would like to thank two nurses who cared for Geri, Carie Welch and Kat Danowski. I am at a loss for words to describe the dedication and commitment in providing the level of care they did. Without their help, I would not have been able to navigate my way through this most difficult situation and I am forever grateful to them.
Relatives and friends are invited to Davis-Garr Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc, 459 East 12th Street, Erie, Pa 16503 on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Burial will be private. Please send condolences to: davisgarrfuneralhome.com.
