George Stanko

George J. Stanko, 101, of Erie, passed away at the PA Soldier & Sailor's Home on November 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on September 22, 1924, in Cleveland, OH to the late Joseph and Mary Stanko. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Pearl (Pat), his sons Gary & Greg, grandson, David Corklin, sisters Rose Janowski, Mary Carr, Julia Dalton and Carol Stanko. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Paul and Edward Stanko.

George proudly served his country in the U.S Army during World War Il and fought in the European Campaign. He was a longtime member of the VFW, American Legion, Siebenbuerger Club, and various other clubs around town. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, swimming, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, and at the age of 95 he still cut, split & stacked his own firewood, His greatest joy in his senior years was spending time with family.

Survivors include his son, George Jr. (Judy), daughters Linda Hamilton (John), Gail Graham (Bruce), Georgia Corklin, his sister-in-law Lucille Stanko, and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

Our family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Soldier & Sailor's Home for the exceptional care and love they showed him during his 6 years there. They became a part of his family and he a part of theirs. We are also grateful for the Hospice team that cared for him the last few weeks of his life.
