Donald Craig Heidelberg Sr. was born October 23, 1952 (73) to Dan Heidelberg and Mattie Jane (Keahey) Heidelberg. He was the first born of eight siblings to this union. Donald affectionately known as “Donnie” was born in Erie, Pa. He transitioned from life on February 20, 2026 at 2:17 a.m. surrounded by love ones. Donnie was a son, brother, father, grandfather, minister and friend, whose life reflected his deep faith and love for music.
Donnie was a proud graduate of Strong Vincent High School. He furthered his spiritual education through World Bible School and received his Credentials of ministry from Universal Life Church. On July 7, 2000, he was officially ordained, receiving all rights and privileges to perform the duties of the ministry. He took his calling seriously. He had a deep knowledge of Scripture and an unwavering commitment to sharing the Word of God.
A gifted bass player, Donnie’s love for gospel music carried him to many places, traveling and singing with various gospel groups. He also performed alongside his siblings in their family group, “The Soul Revivers,” blessing audiences with music that uplifted and inspired. His passion for ministry and music went hand-in-hand, and both were central to his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dan and Mattie Heidelberg; two siblings, Renee Vanita Heidelberg and Jerry Darnell Heidelberg; and one grandson, DayQuan Holloway.
Donnie is survived by Patricia A. Heidelberg, whom he married in 1975. To them was born four children, Mario Heidelberg, Donald Craig Heidelberg II (Sharrisse), Patrick Heidelberg, and Krystal Gail Jones (John.) In addition, one son Damian Wheeler, brother, Daniel Heidelberg; sisters, Rita Heidelberg Williams, and Melva Joyce Heidelberg McInnis; brothers, Alex Heidelberg (Arnetta), and Eric Heidelberg. He leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, and dear friends, all whose lives were touched by his music, and steadfast faith.
Relatives and friends are invited to Davis-Garr Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc. 459 East 12th Street, Erie, Pennsylvania 16503 on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to the time of his Homegoing Celebration at 12:00 PM.
