Chester J. Grzybowski “Ski”, age 86, reached his heavenly home on Friday, October 17, 2025. He was the beloved son of the late Chester and Helen D. (Maleski) Grzybowski.
Born and raised in Erie, PA, Chet graduated from East High School in 1957. He served in the United States Army with fond memories of being stationed in Germany. Upon returning home to Erie, he worked at Lake Erie Forge and General Electric before embarking on a long and dedicated 30-year career as an Iron Worker in Louisiana and Florida.
Chester had a quiet passion for life’s simple joys. He was fond of dominoes, darts, puzzles, pool, and especially having a shot & beer with family and friends. He & Phil (aka Frick & Frack) spent countless hours enjoying golf tournaments and Western movies or “s**t-kickers” as he would call them. He was an avid Miami Dolphins fan and had the honor of meeting Don Shula.
We will miss his humorous, quick-witted character along with the memorable phrases & one-liners…“Bah Humbug” being his favorite.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie, the love-of-his-life for 28 years; brothers, Joseph and William Grzybowski; Joan, the mother of his beautiful daughters; and cherished granddaughter, Emma Rose.
He is lovingly survived by his four daughters and sons-in-law: Debra Grzybowski, Laurie Buckley (Jim) of Connecticut, Anne Fay (Philip), and Jennifer Hagberg (Kevin) of Alabama; also his pride and joy, granddaughter, Abigail Buckley (CT), who held a special place in his heart. Additionally, survived by several cousins, nephew Jace & nieces Michele, Traci, Shannon & special friend Susie.
“God has you in His arms, we have you in our hearts—until we meet again.”
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the loyal and caring staff of Erie VA Hospice, Sarah Reed, and Interim Hospice of Erie.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 21st, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. prayer service to follow, at the Davis-Garr Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Humane Society, ANNA Shelter, or a Veterans organization or charity of one’s choice.
