Arthur Joseph Delano passed away peacefully at his home near his family on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
He was born in Acushnet, Massachusetts August 22, 1936 to Joseph Kempton Delano and Dora Wilbur Delano.
He was a graduate of Dartmouth High School 1954 in Dartmouth, MA.
He graduated from Northeastern University with a BSEE in 1959.
Several days after his graduation he married Barbara Staron in New Bedford, MA.
While at Notheastern University he started his career with the co-op program at the General Electric Company. He continued to work there for 36 years in Pittsfield, MA and Erie, PA.
After retirement, he volunteered for many organizations, including the Harbor Creek Music Booster concession stand, the GE Quarter Century Club picnic, Museum of Erie GE History, First Robotics, Habitat for Humanity (Board Member 1998, vice-president 2000, president 2001), Harborcreek AARP president (2004, 2005), Elfun Society, member of Harborcreek Sewer authority, tax counselor for the elderly for many years, voluntary tutor for the Iroquois School District and volunteer at AHN St. Vincent Hospital for many years.
Arthur is survived by Barbara, his wife of 62 years and his 6 children: Alice Cooper (John); Arthur Delano, Jr. (Yong-Mi Kim); Paul Delano (Roberta); Ruth Spanos (Pete); Mary Patterson (Martin); Mark Delano (Mona Gadde); and 6 grandchildren: Clare, Helen, Joseph and John Patterson; Void Spanos; and Shreya Delano.
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Wilbur Delano, Orina Reagan, Gerald Delano, Claire Driesen and Ann Frias.
Due to Covid and holiday concerns, a private service officiated by Deacon Jerry Sobrowski was held at the Davis-Garr Funeral Home.
