Gloria Carroll Obituary

Gloria Jean (Sherwood) Carroll, 79, formerly of Bradford, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, May 7, 2022, in UPMC Hamot hospital.

Born on July 4, 1942, in Turtle Point, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Edward and Lottie Irene (Bashline) Sherwood of Eldred. She was educated in Otto-Eldred Schools. She was a graduate with the Class of 1960 and was a member of the honor society.

After graduation, she was employed as a paralegal with Nash-Nash Law Office in the Hooker Fulton Building on Main Street in Bradford. It was in that building where she met the love of her life, Patrick J. Carroll III, who proceeded her in death on January 28, 2021.

The couple married on Saturday, July 13, 1963, in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Eldred. As a young married couple, they lived in Patchogue, New York, and welcomed their two sons, Michael Patrick and Mark Edward. The couple returned to Bradford, residing in the Kenmar Acres, and their family grew to include two daughters, Cathi Ann and Dana Patrice. The couple, who were married for 58-years, moved to Laurel Drive in the late 1980s, where they resided before recently moving to Longfellow Drive in Erie, to be closer to their daughter, Cathi and her family. She looked forward to spending Thursday evening together with them for family dinner.

Gloria loved being a stay-at-home mom and was active in her children’s lives serving on the Lincoln Elementary School PTO, where she chaired the annual school bazaar. She was Cub Scout and Boy Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed watching her children in their activities of baseball, softball, boxing, wrestling, gymnastics, and cheerleading.  She also enjoyed bowling on a women’s league at Byllye Lanes in Bradford.

She was a Brownie Troop and Girl Scout leader with troops at the Lincoln Elementary School. As a Scout Leader, she coordinated cookie sales, Girl Scout Days at the Bradford Mall, walked with troops in the annual holiday parades, and helped many girls learn life skills to earn badges and bridge from Brownies into Girl Scouts. She also enjoyed camping at Rest Waters Girl Scout Camp in Mount Jewett. Along with serving as a leader, she held other volunteer positions for the Tall Tree Girl Scouts and become a board member on the Tall Tree Girl Scout Council out of Kittanning.

When her children were grown, she volunteered for over 25-years at the Bradford Regional Medical Center. She served as a volunteer coordinator recruiting and training others to serve as volunteers. She organized class reunions for the Otto-Eldred High School Class of 1960. She enjoyed crafting, and creating Halloween treat bags for the hundreds of children that trick-or-treated at her home. She traveled with her husband to Ireland. They also wintered a few years in St. Augustine, FL. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, who affectionately called her GG.
